Located in the heart of scenic downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USS Kidd is the centerpiece of a memorial which serves to honor the men and women of our American armed forces. Through our guided tour option, take a step back in time with our knowledgable docents. Walk the decks of the Kidd in person, as she is restored to her original WWII configuration. See the aircraft that soared through the skies of Southeast Asia during two eras of conflict. Examine the dented helmet of an infantryman who stormed the beaches of Normandy. Touch the names of the fallen Americans whose names are carved into the black granite walls of the Louisiana Memorial Plaza.

To have the best visit for your group, read our group policies and reserve your date below.

Includes guided tour of the USS Kidd and self-guided tour of the museum. Time spent shopping should be considered in setting your itinerary so as to avoid running late to your next stop. There are a limited number of guides available to escort groups through a tour of the USS KIDD. Please keep in mind that your guides have been called in specifically for this tour; some are paid staff and some are volunteers. If your group is running behind schedule, please give us advance warning by calling ahead so that we can plan this delay around the arrival of other groups and functions.

Adequate adult supervision is required; at least one (1) adult per every ten (10) children. Greater supervision by adults is needed for younger age groups for matters of safety.

Reservations must be made at least two weeks (14 days) in advance to guarantee a guided tour and discount rates. Those groups looking for dates in the spring and summer should call ahead as soon as possible in order to determine if the desired time and date are available. In the event of rain, ice, or other inclement weather you may wish to change your reservation to Museum-Only status. This option allows you to tour the museum on your own (self-guided) without the need to worry about slipping hazards on deck or having your group getting caught outdoors in the rain.

Hours of operation are 9:30am to 3:30pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends. Group tours are staggered throughout the day, so please be prepared with secondary preferences for days and times. The facilities are closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Guided tours are not available on Armed Forces Day or July 4th due to limited staff availability caused by special events held on these days.

Please notify us as soon as possible to cancel an existing reservation. This will allow another group the opportunity to enjoy the ship and the museum. All groups that cancel without prior notification (i.e. no shows) are subject to a charge of $25.00 per tour guide scheduled for that tour.

The age range of your class should be taken into consideration when booking your tour. Younger children (Kindergarten & Pre-School) may have trouble navigating the ladders aboard ship. Main Deck Tours are possible in such cases, as well as Museum-Only Tours.
