Many local businesses and corporations have assisted us over the years in helping educate the public about the history and sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Forces. They do this through the sponsorship of special events and/or exhibitions. All business and corporate sponsors are recognized in local media coverage leading up to and covering such events, in on-site advertisements during the events, in the KIDD’s Compass museum newsletter which is distributed to our membership throughout the nation, and on our website.
Some of the past events, fundraisers, and traveling exhibits that have been held at the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial include the following:
First Free Sunday is a partnership program among several downtown Baton Rouge museums that gives families an opportunity to visit local museums free of charge. Along with free, self-guided tours of both the ship and museum, there will be arts & crafts, aquatic animals, a movie, and more throughout the day. The USS KIDD Veterans Museum opens its doors to the community free of charge every first Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “Themed ” activities take place from noon until 4:00 p.m. in the museum lobby.
First Free Sundays are made possible by corporate and foundation sponsors. Underwriters are recognized in marketing and publicity material and on signage throughout the museum. Underwriters are also welcome to host an information table providing information logo items.
Due to maintenance on the gangway visitors will not be able to come aboard on these days. The museum building can still be toured
