Grab your headsets, fire up your radios, get ready to "guard the fox," and collect a new QSL card from the KIDD. December 07, 2011USCGC WHITE ALDER Memorial Observance A memorial service will be held at the Louisiana Memorial Plaza for the seventeen (17) crewmen lost aboard the Coast Guard buoy tender USCGC WHITE ALDER (WLM-541). On this date in 1968, the WHITE ALDER and all but three of her crew were lost in a collision with the Taiwanese freighter M/V HELENA on the Mississippi River near White Castle, Louisiana, just south of Baton Rouge, leaving the tender and most of her crew entombed on the bottom of the river. December 07, 2011Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Observance A memorial service will be held aboard the USS KIDD (DD-661) to honor the memory of those servicemen killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on this date in 1941. Approximately 2,400 Americans were killed on that fateful morning. Among their number were forty-five sons of Louisiana and RADM Isaac C. Kidd, Sr., after whom the USS KIDD is named. The service begins at 11:55 a.m. and is open to the public. All interested parties are invited to attend. For more information, contact us at 225-342-1942. |

December 17, 2011Scale Modeling Demonstration The Baton Rouge Scale Modelers Association will conduct a workshop at the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial on Saturday, December 17, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The workshops focus on various modeling techniques including painting, gluing, weathering, decals, air brushing, etc. Learn not only how to do it, but how to do it better!!! Camp Overnight Aboard the USS KIDD! Think you've got what it takes to be a part of the crew? Bring your sleeping bag and sign up for an Overnight tour of duty aboard the USS KIDD. Your guide will lead your group on an extensive walking tour throughout the ship where you'll learn all about the life of a World War II sailor. Tour the museum the following morning after enjoying breakfast under a P-40 fighter plane. Patches, dog tags, and souvenirs are available for purchase in the Ship's Store.
