     United States Army Vessels

Seal of the U.S. Army

Merchant and transport vessels were operated by the U.S. Army  as troop and cargo transports during the Civil War.  The U.S. Army Transport Service (USATS) continued this practice during World War II and the Maritime Systems Transport Service (MSTS) during the Korean War and Vietnam War.  The U.S. Army continues to operate numerous vessels today, both in the Transportation Corps and through the Corps of Engineers.  Several of these vessels have been named in honor of cities, rivers, universities, and battles located in the State of Louisiana.  Click on the links below to learn more about each of these vessels.
