"Remember Back When ..." Oral History Program
In the coming decades, many historians will be asking questions about World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Persian Gulf Wars that people today have not yet considered. Children of future decades will not be able to comprehend what life was like during the Great Depression or the social strife of the 1960s, much like those today cannot conceive of television without MTV.
With this in mind, we have asked our veterans for their help in making history more accessible for the public; to help make the dry text of history books more personal and more human.

Most oral histories that we have received have come from the KIDD's former crew members who share with us their most memorable experiences while aboard ship. These stories tell the true story of the KIDD: the day-to-day life of the men who served aboard her.
If you would like to relate any of your experiences in the military—whether sailor, soldier, airman, or marine—please feel free to submit your stories to us for inclusion in our archives to be preserved for later generations. You may send your recollections to:
The KIDD's Compass ATTN: "Remember Back When" 305 South River Road Baton Rouge, LA 70802-6220
You may also email your submissions. Please place "Remember Back When" in the subject of all such emails.
“But I’m not good at writing,” you say? You don’t have to be a writer to make an oral history. CLICK HERE for some helpful hints on how to make your own oral history.
