The Medal of Honor -- U.S. Air Force

The Medal of Honor is the United States military's highest honor, given to those individuals who display "... conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty."

As of 2006, exactly 3,461 Medals of Honor have been awarded in the 145 years since the award was established.  Of those, twenty-one (21) native-born sons of Louisiana have received the highest honor that the military has to bestow upon them.
