Pass Manchac Lighthouse

The Pass Manchac Lighthouse guarded the western shores of Lake Pontchartrain for 150 years.

The Point au Fer Reef Lighthouse

Tower Shape:  Square with Octagonal Lantern

Markings/Patterns:  White with Black Tower

POINTE AUX HERBES LIGHTHOUSE

 

Location:  Southerly side of the easterly end of Lake Pontchartrain

Station Established:  1875

Year Tower First Lit:  1875

Deactivated:  1945

Tower Shape:  Black lantern on square white dwelling, on five white piers

Height:  38 ft.

Original Lens:  5th Order

Characteristic:  Fixed red

 

 

Pointe aux Herbes Lighthouse

The Pointe aux Herbes Lighthouse warned mariners

of dangers along the southeastern shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

Tower Shape:  Hourglass with Octagonal Lantern

Markings/Patterns:  White with Red Lantern

SABINE PASS LIGHTHOUSE

 

Location:  Louisiana side of Sabine Pass; northeast Texas border

Station Established:  1856

Year Tower First Lit:  1856

Year Deactivated:  1952

Automated:  Unknown

Foundation Materials:  Six (6) brick buttresses

Construction Materials:  Brick

Tower Shape:  Octagonal

Markings/Patterns:  White & black stripes "Rocket Ship"

Original Lens:  3rd Order Fresnel

 

Sabine Pass Lighthouse

The Sabine Pass Lighthouse bore the appearance

of the more  traditional lighthouse.

Location:  On the south end of jetty (29° 38.7' N x 93° 49.4' W)

Tower Shape:  Square, skeletal structure on piles on concrete block

Markings/Patterns:  Red

Height:  50 ft.

Original Lens:  500mm

Fog Horn:  Bell; 1 stroke every 20 seconds

 

SHIP SHOAL LIGHTHOUSE

 

Location:  Ten (10) miles south of Grand Isle

Station Established:  1859

Year Tower First Lit:  1859

Year Deactivated:  1972

Automated:  Yes (1950)

Foundation Materials:  Screw pile with platform

Construction Materials:  Cast Iron

Tower Shape:  Skeletal with Cylinder

Markings/Patterns:  Brown

Original Lens:  2nd Order

 

Ship Shoal Lighthouse

The Ship Shoal Lighthouse

stayed in service for 113 years.
