Spring Field Day '97

The largest Field Day crew to date has been the Spring '97 crew. |
Spring Field Day '97: Held April 04-06, 1997. Twenty-five (25) participants attending including one (1) former KIDD crew member. Those attending came from eleven (11) different states: Illinois, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, Georgia Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Work progressed in several areas. Harry Anderson, John Ellsworth (DD-591) and wife Alice, Bruce and Mary Kittredge, Jerome Lasley, Tom Pierett, John Wilder, and KIDD volunteer Rick Worley (DD-576) cleaned and painted in the aft fireroom. Gene Germaine and Bill Poole (U.S. Army) maintenanced 5"/38-cal. Gun Mount 51 while Bob Sherman, David Hovey, and Bill Barnhouse (DD-661) worked on freeing up the main battery director atop the pilothouse. Elmer Haller, Ed and Della Olson, and Dan Turnbaugh polished brass and cleaned bulkhead passageways. Barre McGowen worked in Radio Central while Clint Montz furthered KIDD volunteer Tom Varnado's (CV-8) current project of organizing the ship's blueprints and damage control files in the Ship's Office. |

Members of Boy Scout Troop 315 from Picayune, Mississippi and Boy Scout Troop 84 from Meraux, Louisiana came aboard on Saturday night for an Overnight stay and were able to meet with some of the veterans and ask about their experiences. |
